The famous siege museum in Ladysmith is considered one of the best Anglo-Boer war museums in South Africa. Ladysmith was besieged for 118 days during the Anglo-Boer War. The museum was originally a marketplace, built in 1884. It then served as a ration post throughout the siege and was converted into a museum and library in 1965. The museum houses a collection of artefacts, documents, firearms and uniforms on display, as well as a series of excellent photographs, which tell the story of the siege of Ladysmith. There is also a diorama depicting Ladysmith at the time of the siege. The museum is located on Murchison Street next to the Town Hall.
Further north one finds the Spioenkop Nature Reserve which is also known for its battlefield and offers visitors a chance to enjoy its scenic beauty and fascinating history. Spionkop also offers a panoramic view of the entire Northern and Central Drakensberg.
